In 1944, the Allies became aware of the killings at Auschwitz. Many Jewish leaders called for the bombing of Auschwitz or the railroads leading to the camps to prevent more killings. The Allies declined because they believed the bombs were needed to defeat the Nazi war machine. Is stopping an immoral act (the Holocaust) as important as fighting the war? Is it moral to kill innocents to prevent more innocents from dying? Should the Allies have bombed the camps? Did the Allies, specifically the United States, do ENOUGH to stop the horrific killings? Consider the discussion in class today concerning the Runaway Train scenario.

I believe that the Allies should’ve bombed Auschwitz. The horrors committed during the Holocaust should not have been able to continue as long as they did, especially if the Allies knew about them. As sad as it is, those in Auschwitz were pretty much dead already. It would be better to put those who were suffering endlessly while preventing others from having the same fate. The Allies did not do much to assist those affected in the Holocaust.

I believe that the allies should have bombed Auschwitz. I believe this because of what was happening there. 1 million Jews were killed there by either the Gas chamber or labor for long hours and little food. If it were me making the decision I would say yes, I would say this because of what they were doing to the Jews as well as stopping the railroads from working as well as killing Nazis a long with it. Stopping the Railroads would be good because one they cant bring goods in from there and they cant transport more Jews into Auschwitz. It sounds bad to do, but dropping bombs there and possibly destroying the whole camp is good because then they couldn't kill anymore Jews and Bringing the Holocaust down as well as worrying Germans to open up more camps that could be destroyed which is just a waist of money. Out of all this to sum it up I think that we should've bombed Auschwitz and it would prevent a lot of stop that would have happened.

They should not have bombed Auschwitz. While there were many horrific things that took place at this death camp, there are other ways to achieve liberation for the innocents in Auschwitz. Bombing Auschwitz may have prevented some deaths, but the Nazi party would still be in charge and other camps would still be around, even if they were deemed ‘not as bad’ as Auschwitz. From a strategic perspective, one would want to put an end to the war and Nazi

I believe the Allies shoud've bombed Auschwitz. We're talking about millions of deaths in camps. To put an end to this horrific act, allies had to fight with violence. If the Allies were aware of the killings in Auschwitz's, they should be doing what is right so no more innocent people are dying in camps. In situations like this, it should be about whats right. Yes I understand that there could have been a better way to solve this, but to put a quick stop to this, fighting will have to be the answer to save more lives and not have the camps go on.

I think that the Allies should have bombed Auschwitz. Auschwitz was one of the main killing centers for the Nazis. The railroads were essential for the transportation of materials so it would have been debilitating for the Nazis and it would have destroyed one of the main places for the Holocaust. I think that war should be used as a tool to stop immoral acts, such as genocide, so it is just as ending immoral acts is just as important, if not more important than fighting the war. Though I don't like the idea of killing innocents, if I knew that it would save more lives, then I would go along with sacrificing some to save more people. Bombing Auschwitz would have also sent a message to the Nazi's that we (the Allies) weren't afraid to pull something like this and take drastic action. I don't know much about WWII, but from what I do know, the Allies didn't prioritize the humanitarian the aspect of the war. The US worried more about fighting the Germans than ending the Holocaust. While I think beating the Germans helped end the Holocaust, but the US could have done more.

I believe That the Ally’s should have bombed Auschwitz because innocent people were being killed. These people are not part of the war they are civilians taken from there homes. The bomb would kill all of the citizens that are already there but as stated in class they are already dead from starvation or gas’s chambers. To use the bomb on the war is different people dying, but I’m not saying they are less than but they but there lives on the line themselves by fighting in the war. The other Jews are not soldiers they are innocent people that are immorally being dragged in to the war. The railroads are a big part of importing Jews but they would just have to suffer the brutal walk to the camp. They would have death marches to move Jews and this would be no different. The camp itself should have been bombed to unarm the Germans of these weapon. It may not look like a weapon but it was but much worse this one weapon killed up to 1 million people and should have been stopped.

I believe that the allies made the right decision. In order to stop more innocents from dying they chose to take to the front lines and end the threat. There is no denying that what happened during the holocaust was cruel and horrible acts, but I believe that it was necessary to defeat the immediate threat before rescuing the prisoners. I believe this to be the case because of the possibility of failure when it came to the bombing of the camps. If the allied forces were to miss the camps, this would cause an increase in labor to the already overworked and underfed prisoners. Not only would it increase the work labor that would also increase the death rate because of the amount of innocents that were dying due to these horrible conditions. If the death rates increased that would lead to more innocents being captured and killed. It was simply not worth the risk of failure because even more innocents would of been affected if they failed.

I personally believe that the Allies made the right decision in not bombing Auschwitz. The risk factor was far too great in order for them to create a drastic decision. There was no room for failure because hypothetically speaking if they were to miss, we would have endangered many more. If the Nazis had known that their position was given up, who is to say that they would not try to speed up the process of killing the Jewish people. I do believe fighting the immoral act is important, however, eliminating the threat that is causing the immoral is a degree more important. In regards to whether or no the United States did enough, I don't think anyone did enough. The Holocaust went on for personally longer than I think it should have. Finally, I could not kill innocents to protect more innocents from dying. I believe it is immoral because who am I to decide whether they live or die?

I believe that the allies made the right decision to not bombed auchwitz because some people’s grandparents survived the camp and life today and if the allies bombed it the grandparents who survived would be died and some students would not be here and they would never have been born. Even though all were pretty much died some people kept fighting to get out and to live after the war and to have a family and to tell the tale of auchwitz and how they survived

Since this class is of the utmost importance, I will be putting my opinion here regardless of the time of its publishing. I believe that the resources should be maintained for the strategic success of the western front. If the suffering of the few in the camps are ended, but the nazi regime succeeds because of the wasteful usage of allied resources, it would be in vain.

I personally think that the United States should've bombed Auschwitz because if we bomb it, Then we can save more people in the future instead of letting more people die and losing more people than there needs to be. People are also being tortured to death at very slow rates. Where we could bomb it now and save millions more, but take the toll of killing the people in the camp. We just need to end the horrific act of them and save more people than the people already there.

I believe that although the US. did the strategical thing by not bombing Auschwitz, They should have. I believe this because the people who were in Auschwitz at the time the US was thinking of bombing it were probably already dead by the time of its liberation. In other words the people at Auschwitz had to suffer for months to come. Where as if the US was to have bombed Auschwitz we could token them out of their misery.

It isn’t immoral to bomb auschits because you need to way the costs and benefits and look more at the bigger picture. Germany used Auschwits as one of their main killing camps, they brought in thousands killed them and then brought in more. The idea of bombing them is a perfectly fine idea. If they were just left alone and no one did anything to them than all that would’ve happened is more killing. I think that bombing them isn’t anywhere close to immoral.

I think that they should boom the camp because they can also hit the rail road and do two good things to help the Jews escape the terror that they are in but I think the risk of hitting the place they don’t want to hit will be worth taking out the worst death camp there

I believe that the Allies should have bombed the camp. If they would have done that they would of saved a lot more innocent lives. The people at the camp were already dead or close to it.

I think that we should have bombed auschwitz because then it probably would've ended it a lot sooner and the amount of Jews who died wouldn't have been so much since it would've been done with.

I think that the camp should have been bombed because if it were thousands and thousands of lives could have been saved.Yes, Innocent people would die but the number of innocents that died due to the decision would out way those in the camp.

I believe bombing Auschwitz would be a moral act and important, but so is the war and having extra bombs would be best. I believe they should use some bombs on it, even with the possibility of missing, and save the rest for the war. So I am not sure what would have been best as i would prefer to bomb Auschwitz, but having bombs in the war is just as important.
