Drawings like the one above in Chauvet were created thousands of years ago. The people who produced them had to undergo difficult conditions to draw them. In spite of the challenges, there are many caves throughout Europe with these masterpieces of the ancient world. Today, we refer to these paintings as "cave art." However the term itself makes the paintings seem inferior. It is as if the quality of compositions are lower than the quality of the art of Picasso or Leonardo Da Vinci. Should the modifier "cave" be removed? Should we refer to these drawings simply as art on the same par as the art of the Classical Age, the Renaissance, or even the modern period. Explain your reasoning and address what makes something art.

I believe it should be called cave art. This is because other art is not on the wall of a cave. This art can’t be bought and appreciated by most people. Other art on paper can be bought an enjoyed by everyone.

I belive that it should be called cave art because, the title cave art gives you an understanding that these drawing were done mostly by cavemen who communicated that way.

I believe that the drawings should continue being called cave art for it gives us an example of the time period these were drawn and who drew them. Cave art in my opinion should not be thought of as inferior for it was just as hard if not more to create. Thus, cave art is art and shouldn’t be thought of as inferior to other art.

I believe cave art should just be called art because calling it "cave art" makes it sound like it's not "real art" and people should learn to appreciate it because in a way it is the foundation for all the paintings and sculptures we find masterful today.

I believe that it should be called "cave art" but not as a derogatory term. Its just a name given to describe the art as a broad time description or the way and location it was made.

I feel that we should keep it as “cave” art because it tells us that these paintings were drawn during the cave times , it also shows us that these were considered “art” at the time . I also think that it should stay cave art because these paintings will never reach a museum or ever leave the cave

"Not everything can be art because then nothing is art..." These words are mr.Yips words, and he is exactly right. What really makes something art is when the peace of art has a meaning, and a story, or even multiple stories.

I believe that it should be called cave art because it’s in a cave. If you say just art you’ll think it’s a painting on a canvas but it’s not. Cave art gives it more meaning and value. It aslo gives you knowledge about its origin. When you say cave art you think history and how they drew back then.

I think it should be called cave art because it’s art that had been done in a cave and it is different from other types of art because of how it was done and the tools

i think i should be called cave art because the art was made in a cave because when you think of art you think all these great painters but when you say cave art you would think of art made 1,000 of year ago

I believe it should be called cave art because it makes it stand out as unique and let’s people know what it is and when it was from rather than just art which can apply to multiple things
